California Governor Gavin Newsom released an ad depicting Alabama police pulling over and forcing pregnancy tests on two young women driving to get an abortion.

The ad said Republicans want to criminalize women traveling for reproductive care and that Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Alabama are considering banning minors from traveling out of state for abortions without parental consent.

“Alabama’s abortion ban has no exceptions for rape or incest. Now, Republicans are trying to criminalize young women’s travel to receive abortion care. We cannot let them get away with this,” Newsom wrote.

Newsom’s website said these states want to imprison women and deny their constitutional right to travel, calling it a nationwide abortion ban.

The ad directed people to Newsom’s site to take action.

Some social media users criticized the ad as propaganda and unhinged, saying it went too far in its depiction.

“This is total propaganda,” one X user wrote.

“Yet businesses, families, and congressional seats can’t flee California fast enough,” another wrote.

“This is unhinged even for you,” another said.
