Republican Ashley Kalus won the nomination for governor in her primary race in Rhode Island. This sets her up to face off against Democrat Daniel McKee in November.
Kalus is considered a newcomer to Rhode Island and the Republican Party. She beat Jonathan Riccitelli for the nomination.

She has reportedly spent millions of her own money in the campaign in order to afford television commercials and other marketing.
“My promise is that I will always do what is in the best interests of the taxpayers of Rhode Island,” Kalus said in a statement. “And I will always put people above party as I work to get Rhode Island back on track.”

“We need a fresh set of eyes on the problems that plague our state,” she continued.
“Together, we can make our state the most affordable place to live, work, and raise a family,” she added.
