Matt Gaetz Faces Off With The Media After McCarthy Removal

Republicans are having flashbacks to Donald Trump’s frequent swarms of mainstream media personnel as Matt Gaetz was completely surrounded by reporters following Kevin McCarthy’s being ousted as House Speaker.

Gaetz filed a motion to vacate against McCarthy, ultimately leading to a 216-210 vote to oust the now-former House Speaker.

Eight Republicans voted with every Democrat who was present. The final vote was 216 to 210 in favor of McCarthy’s ouster.

Republican Matt Gaetz, who introduced the motion, said McCarthy made an agreement when he became Speaker, but Congress still has had “no vote on term limits or on balanced budgets, as the agreement demanded and required.”

“There’s been no full release of the January 6 tapes, as you promised,” Gaetz added. “There’s been insufficient accountability for the Biden crime family.”

“Instead of cutting spending to raise the debt limit, you relied on budgetary gimmicks and rescissions so that you ultimately ended up serving as the valet to underwrite Biden’s debt and advance his spending agenda,” Gaetz explained.

“Mr. Speaker, you boasted in January that we would use the power of the subpoena and the power of the purse. But here we are eight months later and we haven’t even sent the first subpoena to Hunter Biden.”

“That’s how you know that the rushed and, you know, somewhat rattled performance you just saw from the speaker isn’t real. At this point during Democrat control over the House of Representatives, they had already brought in Don Jr. three times,” Gaetz said. “We haven’t even sent the first subpoena to Hunter Biden. Power of the subpoena. And power of the purse, only thing the 118th Congress is known for at this point is electing Kevin McCarthy speaker and underwriting Biden’s debt and unfortunately there’s only one of those things we can remediate at this time,” he added.

Gaetz concluded, “Our leadership right now is asking us to vote for a continuing resolution, a vote for a continuing resolution is a vote to continue the green new deal, a vote to continue inflationary spending, and the most troubling of fashions, a vote for a continuing resolution is a vote to continue the election interference of Jack Smith.”

“Chaos is Speaker McCarthy. Chaos is somebody who we cannot trust with their word,” Gaetz said as McCarthy looked down at his lap.

Prior to the vote, McCarthy reportedly told Gaetz to “bring it on.”

“That’s nothing new,” McCarthy said on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”

“Yes, I’ll survive. You know, this is personal with Matt. Matt voted against the most conservative ability to protect our border, secure our border. He’s more interested in securing TV interviews than doing something.”

He added: “So be it, bring it on. Let’s get over with it and let’s start governing.”
