A British judge has suspended a 12-month sentence behind bars for a 27-year-old woman found guilty of groping and exposing herself to a 13-year-old boy in a park.

“On the one hand, this is a sexual assault on a young person by someone who is 27 years of age, and it is plainly a serious matter,” Judge Eric Lamb stated.

“On the other side there is strong personal mitigation as a result of genuine remorse, and the series of events that have led you to your mental health difficulties,” he added, saying he felt that the assaulter Jade Berry showed “genuine and heartfelt remorse.”

Berry’s sentence has been suspended for 18 months, and she will instead be required to keep a “sobriety” tag on her body, in addition to attending a rehabilitation activity for just over a month.

Berry will be a registered sex offender for 10 years.

The crimes were committed after Berry had wandered into a public park following a long night of drinking, at which point she approached two teenage boys on a bench.

Berry sat next to them and began groping the boy’s genitals while stating she would have sex with him, saying, “I’m going to ride you ‘til morning.”

The 27-year-old then revealed her nude under-carriage to the boys before going unconscious, at which point the teenagers left.

The victim has reportedly attempted to commit suicide, and experienced repeated nightmares since the assault.

Berry’s attorney claimed the crime was a result of her struggle with alcohol, saying, “It seems that her alcohol intoxication may have led her into doing and committing this offense,”

“There is genuine heartfelt remorse, and she shows victim empathy.”
