Former President Donald Trump has confirmed that he would be willing to temporarily fill the role as House Speaker in order to be a “unifier” for GOP lawmakers.
“I have been asked to speak as a unifier because I have so many friends in Congress,” Trump stated.
“If they don’t get the vote, they have asked me if I would consider taking the speakership until they get somebody longer-term, because I am running for president.” (Poll: Who Should Win the Presidency In 2024? VOTE)
Rep. Jim Jordan reacts to President Trump's endorsing him for House Speaker:
“I appreciate the president’s endorsement. He’s the leader of the party. He’s gonna be our presidential nominee and I think he’s gonna be our next president — so, I appreciate that.” pic.twitter.com/g1swTkr6iJ

“They have asked me if I would take it for a short period of time for the party, until they come to a conclusion,” he continued.
“I’m not doing it because I want to — I will do it if necessary, should they not be able to make their decision,” Trump added.
Multiple GOP leaders have publicly stated that they would like to see Trump in the position.
Trump said, “I would only do it for the party,” and has pressed that it would only be for a “30, 60, or 90-day period.”
In the meantime, Trump has endorsed Rep. Jim Jordan for the position.
