Americans Fuming Over Court’s Decision to Offer Parade Massacre Suspect Bail

Americans are furious with the courts for two major reasons.

First, the sole suspect who allegedly carried out the Christmas parade massacre in Wisconsin that killed 6 people and injured dozens more was released on bail just days before the deadly attack.

For only $1,000, the career criminal and convicted felon identified as 39-year-old Darrell Brooks Jr. was able to post bond in Milwaukee County on felony and misdemeanor charges.

Second, Americans are furious that the courts have again set bail for Brooks Jr. despite facing five felony counts of first-degree intentional homicide. The amount is $5 million.

During his bail hearing Tuesday, Brooks — dressed in a green, sleeveless suicide prevention gown — rocked back and forth, stared at the floor, and appeared at one point to sob loudly.

Brooks, 39, also was free on $500 bail from a crime he is accused of that took place last July.

Wisconsin law requires defendants to pay the full amount of their bail.

A sixth victim in the parade massacre died on Tuesday.
