Jim Carrey Throws Temper-Tantrum About Elon Musk, Announces He’s Leaving Twitter With Strange Cartoon

OPINION | This article contains the author's opinion.

For years, actor and comedian Jim Carrey has used his Twitter account to spew his far-left politics and ruthlessly attack conservatives.

During this same period, conservatives were censored and banned. While Twitter disallowed free speech for conservatives, Jim Carrey could run wild with his own hateful speech.

🚨 POLL: Will you miss Jim Carrey on Twitter?
YES 👍 or NO 👎

Enter the world’s richest man: Elon Musk. Following his takeover of Twitter, Musk has vowed to restore free speech for all Americans, not just Jim Carrey.

This didn’t sit well with Carrey, who has announced he’s leaving Twitter in obvious protest of Musk’s takeover.

On November 8th, Carrey suffered a complete meltdown and published a drawing that mocks Musk as “Captain Smirk.”

Capt Smirk fired 1/2 his crew,” Carrey said in reference to Musk firing Twitter employees. “He’s banning comics: shadow banning unverified users, boldly going where no unbridled ego has gone before.”

“Says, ‘$8/mo is the price of a latte.’ True,” he continued. “It’s also cheaper than a T-shirt saying ‘Rob me. I’m a gullible ass!'”

“BTW Mars mission? FAKE NEWS,” he concluded.

“I’m leaving Twitter, but 1st here’s a cartoon I made with my friend Jimmy Hayward,” the Liar Liar actor said.

“It’s based on my painting of a crazy old Lighthouse Keeper, standing naked in a storm, summoning the angels and shining his lamp to guide us through a treacherous night. I love you all so much!”

Here’s a look at the strange cartoon and his final goodbye (at least, for now):

Carrey is the latest celebrity to declare that he is leaving Twitter in the wake of Tesla CEO Elon Musk completing his takeover of the platform.

Last week, after Musk reinstated former President Donald Trump’s account to Twitter, White Stripes vocalist and guitarist Jack White deleted his account, calling the Tesla CEO “absolutely disgusting” and claiming that he only restored Trump’s account because he hates paying taxes.

Around that same time, music producer Trent Reznor declared that he needed to delete his Twitter account for his “mental health” and that Musk’s takeover of the social media platform is an “embarrassment.”

Last month, Shonda Rhimes, the Hollywood power producer behind television mainstays including Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and, How to Get Away with Murder, claimed she would be leaving Twitter following Musk’s takeover, although she has yet to do so.

Other whining celebrities who have vowed to leave Twitter following Musk’s October 28 takeover include Whoopi Goldberg, model Gigi Hadid, actress Debra Messing, actor Alex Winter, and producers Ken Olin and Brian Koppelman, among others.
