Rep. Josh Brecheen is leading a fight against a costly Biden administration proposed rule targeting ceiling fans, arguing that it could harm small businesses and American workers.
The Department of Energy’s proposed energy conservation guidelines for ceiling fans would cost manufacturers $86.6 million annually.

Rep. Brecheen said, “Biden’s Department of Energy should be focused on ensuring American energy independence instead of pursuing a radical green agenda that will crush small businesses.”
“This bill is needed to ensure that DOE cannot act any further on this proposed rule,” he continued.
The DOE rule would reportedly change energy conservation standards for ceiling fans and decrease the maximum energy consumption allowed for large diameter and belt-driven ceiling fans.
“These proposed standards, which are required by Congress, wouldn’t take effect until 2028, would give Americans more energy efficient options to choose from, and would save hardworking taxpayers up to $369 million per year, while substantially reducing harmful air pollution — a crucial fact that some have conveniently failed to mention,” wrote the DOE in a statement.
Rep. Brecheen’s allies in Congress support this stance, criticizing the administration’s focus on such regulations and its impact on small businesses.
The bill’s co-sponsor, Rep. Eric Burlison said, “I proudly stand with Representative Brecheen to oppose the Department of Energy’s damaging proposed rule on ceiling fan standards, which threatens the survival of many small businesses.”
“This rule is another clear-cut case of government overreach and overregulation and could cost these businesses more than their annual revenues in order to comply,” he continued.
“Instead of trying to break the backbone of small businesses, the Biden Administration should focus on reversing all their economic policies that have caused record inflation and a cost-of-living crisis,” advised the Missouri Republican.
Rep. Bob Good, another co-sponsor said, “The Biden Administration has gone after gas stoves, air conditioners, and is now targeting ceiling fans.”
“I thank Rep. Brecheen for his leadership in fighting against this ridiculous government overreach,” said Rep. Good.
The proposed rule, which aims to increase energy efficiency, has faced opposition for its potential economic impact and has been part of broader criticism of the administration’s green policies.
On Joe Biden’s first day in The White House he signed an executive order that mandated “major revisions” to be made to “current appliance regulation standards and standards set by the Trump administration.”
Executive branch agencies like the DOE have tremendous power that some Republicans, in this case, are doing their best to restrict and keep in the hands of elected lawmakers, not Biden’s bureaucrats.
