Civil rights groups, including the ACLU, have filed a lawsuit against the State of Texas over a new law that allows police to arrest migrants who cross the border illegally and permits judges to order them to leave the U.S.
The ACLU argues that the law is unconstitutional and will lead to racial profiling and harassment.

“This is unconstitutional and will harm Black and Brown Texans the most.”
A White House spokesperson said that SB4 “will make communities in Texas less safe.”

Governor Greg Abbott signed the law, which opponents criticize as an extreme anti-immigration measure.
The White House has expressed concern, and the law is set to take effect in March.
Additionally, Texas Republicans believe the Biden administration is not doing enough to control the southern border, which has seen a significant increase in migrant encounters.
