Following former President Donald Trump’s sweeping election victory, the New York Times described his election victory with bold and, as many Republicans felt, misleading words.
The Times used headlines that depicted him in aggressive and militaristic ways.
“Stunning Return to Power After Dark and Defiant Campaign,” one headline read.
“10 Takeaways From the Night Trump Marched Back to the White House,” another read.
Articles described Trump’s win using language that suggested an invasion or authoritarianism, referring to him as a “strongman” and noting the potential for unprecedented governance in America.
“Pariah, Felon, President-Elect: How Trump Fought His Way Back to Power,” one headline read.
Leading up to the election, Trump was frequently labeled as fascist and authoritarian by media and political figures, with Vice President Kamala Harris calling him dangerous.
Despite winning the popular vote, Trump’s supporters were dismissed by Democrats as uneducated and a threat to the country.
