Kamala Harris’ campaign ended $20 million in debt, despite raising a staggering $1 billion. Pre-election concerts with stars like Lady Gaga cost the campaign nearly the same amount, leaving vendors with unpaid invoices.
Several DNC staffers have resigned amid reports that Kamala Harris’s campaign is $20 million in debt after spending approximately $1 billion in just 90 days. DNC finance committee member Lindy Li has called for a “postmortem” to address internal issues within the party.
The campaign team admitted the concerts’ financial toll, previously canceling some to save money. Seven swing-state concerts occurred, but all states went to Trump. Logistics costs had remained high despite waived artist fees.
Obama campaign veterans Stephanie Cutter and David Plouffe had backed the concert plan. Staffer Jen O’Malley Dillon was reportedly hesitant but later embraced the decision.
The celebrity events were “all Jen’s idea,” one campaign staffer stated. “Jen blew through a billion dollars in a few months, and it was all Jen’s idea to do all the concerts.”
“I am very surprised that the Democrats, who fought a hard and valiant fight in the 2020 (sic) Presidential Election, raising a record amount of money, didn’t have lots of $’s left over,” Trump mockingly wrote online.
“Now they are being squeezed by vendors and others. Whatever we can do to help them during this difficult period, I would strongly recommend we, as a Party and for the sake of desperately needed UNITY, do,” Trump said.
“We have a lot of money left over in that our biggest asset in the campaign was ‘Earned Media,’ and that doesn’t cost very much. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump concluded.
