Dick Van Dyke Mourns Trump Victory

Actor Dick Van Dyke, approaching his 99th birthday, expressed relief that he won’t witness President-elect Donald Trump’s full second term. In a conversation with a reporter, He noted that he would not be alive for Trump’s next four years, a sentiment shared amid widespread celebrity upheaval over the election. Van Dyke’s wife shared in his concern.

“Fortunately, I won’t be around to experience the four years,” he said.

Van Dyke had endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris before the election, comparing today’s political climate to the Civil Rights Movement and referencing a 1964 speech with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Van Dyke was previously a staunch supporter of Sen. Bernie Sanders.

“VOTE!!! @kamalaharris @vp @kamalahq” Van Dyke posted online.

Despite Van Dyke’s endorsement, Trump dominantly won the 2024 election against Harris, securing 312 Electoral College votes and every swing state. His victory far surpassed his 2016 performance, even achieving a popular vote win.

Van Dyke was one of numerous celebrities who expressed their frustrations with the election results online.

Christina Applegate wrote, “Why? Give me your reasons why????? My child is sobbing because her rights as a woman may be taken away. Why? And if you disagree, please unfollow me.” She then announced plans to close her X account, citing her disappointment with the results.

Jamie Lee Curtis urged her followers to keep fighting for their beliefs, saying, “So the results are in… But what it really means is that we wake up and fight. Fight for women and our children and their futures and fight against tyranny, one day at a time.”

Ariana Grande shared her empathy for Harris supporters, writing, “Holding the hand of every person who is feeling the immeasurable heaviness of this outcome today.”

Trump’s re-election marked a historic non-consecutive second term, a feat not seen in over 130 years. His campaign overcame significant challenges, including surviving two assassination attempts in two months.

Not all celebrities were distraught over the results. Hulk Hogan celebrated Trump’s victory and encouraged unity after the election, saying, “Believe it or not, brother, we’re more alike than we are different… It’s time to come together, talk with our neighbors and focus on what unites us.”

Rob Schneider praised the results online, writing, “THERE WILL BE NO LATE NIGHT BALLOT DROP THIS YEAR… THE AMERICAN PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN… THIS IS A LANDSLIDE VICTORY AND A MANDATE FOR OUR 47TH PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES DONALD J TRUMP.”

50 Cent shared photos with Trump online and wrote, “I don’t care how the fight goes, I’m leaving with the winner [expletive]. I still don’t know what’s going on. Congratulations!”
