Senator Marco Rubio of Florida was chosen by President-elect Donald Trump as Secretary of State, becoming the first Latino in this role. Rubio, active on the Senate Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committees, has consistently warned about China’s threat.
China was a key focus of his 2016 presidential campaign. Trump’s administration has big plans to address the issue, which makes Rubio a proper fit.
Despite past rivalries, Rubio has become a strong Trump ally, opposing impeachment trials and being a vice-presidential contender.
Rubio’s Senate exit will lead Governor Ron DeSantis to appoint a successor.
Trump also appointed U.S. Rep. Mike Walz as National Security Advisor, along with Lee Zeldin for the EPA and Elise Stefanik as U.S. Ambassador to the UN, aiming to strengthen security and diplomacy.
