House Republicans Push Bill That Could ‘Defund’ Trump Prosecutors

via NBC

House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan proposed defunding politicized prosecutions, targeting prosecutors handling cases against former President Donald Trump like Fani Willis, Alvin Bragg, and Letitia James.

Jordan is seeking to curb abusive law enforcement tactics, recommending zero funding for certain offices and calling for a halt to what he perceives as political pursuits.

Legal experts predicted potential reversals for Trump’s recent convictions, emphasizing avenues for appeal and concerns over the trial’s fairness.

“I believe that the case will be reversed eventually, either in the state or federal systems,” constitutional law attorney Jonathan Turley said.

“However, this was the worst expectation for a trial in Manhattan,” he said. “I had hoped that the jurors might redeem the integrity of a system used for political purposes.”

“The trial is a target-rich environment for appeal. However, that appeal will stretch beyond the election. In the meantime, Democrats and President Biden can add ‘convicted felon’ to the political mantra,” he said.

Trump faces a maximum 136-year sentence, with experts noting the jury’s focus on Michael Cohen’s testimony.

“The jury ended up believing Michael Cohen, which is something I have a hard time conceiving since Michael Cohen has lied every time he has been under oath in the past and admitted that he hates Donald Trump, blaming him for all his problems, stole from him, and will profit from this conviction,” former federal prosecutor John Malcolm said.
