Fraternity brothers who held up the American flag rewarded

via CBS

Fraternity brothers at the University of North Carolina who defended an American flag during an on-campus protest will get to attend a large party funded by donations to celebrate their patriotic act.

In May, the fraternity members held up the flag for nearly an hour as anti-Israel protesters tried to replace it, in a display many saw as heroic.

In response, a GoFundMe was started and raised over $500,000 for a party. Organizers have now established a nonprofit called “Pints for Patriots” to plan the party, called “Flagstock 2024”, which will be held for free on Labor Day 2024.

“We owe all freedom-loving Americans an update on our progress,” an announcement read. “Flagstock 2024 planning is in full swing! We have established Pints for Patriots to plan and execute the event, liaise with UNC Chapel Hill officials, handle security, and handle logistics.”

The organizers aim to properly thank the fraternity brothers and all patriotic donors who made the celebration possible.

“Nothing unifies America like an epic party,” organizer John Noonan said.

“These great young guys defended our flag and created a unifying national cultural moment,” the update read. “Everyone in America wanted to thank these fine young patriots. On Labor Day, we will get to do just that. Pints for Patriots is grateful to all donors who made the party possible.”

“I was so impressed that, first of all, someone had taught them… that you never let the American flag touch the ground, under any circumstances,” country music star John Rich said. “Somebody raised these guys correctly. They understand what’s going on.”
