Tensions are rising among MSNBC staff as some employees and on-air personalities express dissatisfaction with the focus on longtime host Rachel Maddow, who is perceived as receiving preferential treatment, including a star dressing room and VIP perks.
This discontent is reportedly creating a rift ahead of MSNBC’s upcoming live event, “MSNBC Live: Democracy 2024,” scheduled for September 7 in Brooklyn, which will feature numerous hosts.
Insiders described the situation as a “powder keg” and highlight that Maddow’s prominence is overshadowing fellow hosts like Ari Melber, Joy Reid, and Lawrence O’Donnell.
“Rachel is the Beyoncé of the group, but she’s getting all the attention and perks and the others are not happy,” one insider said.
“It’s a powder keg waiting to explode,” the insider added.
“Our colleagues at Bravo have created a really magical experience for their audience, and we have learned a lot and been inspired by what they have created,” MSNBC senior vice president of content strategy Rebecca Kutler said.
