Rupert Murdoch is currently facing a legal dispute with three of his children over changes he made to the family trust controlling his media empire, which includes Fox News and other significant outlets.
At 93, Murdoch amended the trust to ensure his favored son, Lachlan, holds greater control, which has led to estrangement from his other children—James, Elisabeth, and Prudence.
Despite attempts to negotiate, Murdoch pushed through the changes during an emergency meeting in December, prompting legal challenges from his three children, who argue that the amendments undermine the trust’s original equal governance provisions.
The familial conflict has drawn parallels to the drama portrayed in HBO’s “Succession,” and the situation is set for trial in September.
James Murdoch has publicly criticized the editorial stance of Fox News, linking it to long-term viability concerns for the company.
