Fear of Trump Prompted Russia to Speed Up Prisoner Swap

via Fox

Russia’s interest in a prisoner swap with the United States reportedly increased following indications that Donald Trump could return to the presidency, according to reports.

The urgency for a deal was prompted by concerns among Russian officials about the unpredictability of a potential Trump administration and the timing of the upcoming U.S. elections.

A German negotiation team, observing Russia’s eagerness to finalize a swap before the election, engaged in discussions with Russian counterparts.

Trump, known for his hardline stance on hostage negotiations, has criticized the Biden administration’s approach to prisoner swaps as generating incentives for future hostage-taking.

“And to the entire world, I tell you this, we want our hostages back — and they better be back before I assume office, or you will be paying a very big price,” Trump said.

Reports also noted that despite recent exchanges, many Americans remain imprisoned in Russia.
