via Sky Sports News

Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, who has faced criticism for her gender eligibility, asserted, “I am a woman!” after defeating Hungary’s Anna Luca Hamoni in the 2024 Paris Olympics. B

oth Khelif and Taiwan’s Lin Yu-ting previously failed the International Boxing Association’s (IBA) gender tests and were disqualified from the 2023 Women’s World Boxing Championships after being found to have male XY chromosomes.

However, both athletes are currently competing successfully in the Olympics, with Khelif already guaranteed at least a bronze medal due to the competition format.

Khelif’s latest victory followed a rapid win over Italian boxer Angela Carini, who quit the match early.

Khelif is set to face Thailand’s Janjaem Suwannapheng in the semifinals.
