Clinton Family Member Angling For Ambassadorship In Potential Harris Administration

via Forbes

Chelsea Clinton is reportedly interested in becoming the U.S. ambassador to the UK if Kamala Harris is elected president, as suggested by sources close to the Clinton family.

The family has been vocal in their support for Harris, with insiders indicating that they have been pursuing this diplomatic ambition for some time.

Traditionally, ambassadorships to major allies like the UK are awarded to top political contributors, and while President Biden had pledged to appoint individuals based on merit rather than donations, many of his selections have come from wealthy donors.

“Chelsea really wants to be the ambassador to the UK,” an inside source stated. “There’s a reason why Bill and Hillary came out in the first five minutes to support Kamala’s presidential bid — they were currying favor.”

“I’m going to appoint the best people possible,” Biden said. “Nobody, in fact, will be appointed by me based on anything they contributed.”

“I can well imagine that the UK ambassadorship is an aspiration for Chelsea, although she is a bit junior still — and London usually goes to a massive donor or fundraiser,” a British embassy official said.

“Foreign countries love high-profile people as ambassadors because it brings them more attention,” another insider stated. “They would rather have someone more famous and less rich.”

“She is 44 and has a long-held ambition for this. It’s important for her to have her own legacy,” the insider said. “She has always wanted to spend more time abroad, much like Caroline Kennedy.”

Chelsea, currently the vice chair of the Clinton Foundation, is also open to an ambassadorship in France and is seen as aiming to establish her own legacy.

Despite speculation, some sources have denied that the Clintons’ support for Harris was solely to secure a position for Chelsea.
