Zijie Li, a 38-year-old Chinese citizen from California, was arrested for attempting to gain access to former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club multiple times, claiming to have documents linking the Chinese government to an assassination attempt on Trump.
The assassination attempt occurred during a rally in Pennsylvania when a shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, fired at Trump and injured several others before being killed by Secret Service agents.
Li’s initial attempt on July 19 was met with a trespassing warning from security, but he continued to approach the estate, leading to his arrest near Mar-a-Lago after blocking traffic.
A judge has issued a no-contact order against him regarding Trump and the estate. Li is scheduled for a court appearance on August 5.
