via YouTube

Juan “Chi Chi” Rodriguez, the legendary golfer and Hall of Famer, passed away at the age of 88 in Puerto Rico.

Known for his vibrant personality and unique style, Rodriguez began playing golf with a guava tree stick and became famous for his flashy attire and entertaining antics on the course.

He won eight PGA Tour events during his 21-year career and was a member of one Ryder Cup team, later achieving 22 victories on the Champions Tour.

Rodriguez was also a dedicated philanthropist, establishing an academy in Tampa to support young golfers from the Caribbean, reflecting his commitment to giving back to the community.

“Chi Chi Rodriguez’s passion for charity and outreach was surpassed only by his incredible talent with a golf club in his hand,” PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan stated. “A vibrant, colorful personality both on and off the golf course, he will be missed dearly by the PGA Tour and those whose lives he touched in his mission to give back. The PGA Tour sends its deepest condolences to the entire Rodriguez family during this difficult time.”

“Why do I love kids so much? Because I was never a kid myself. I was too poor to really have a childhood,” Rodriguez said previously.

His contributions to golf and youth development have left a lasting legacy, and he will be remembered fondly by the golfing world.
