A member of the Washington D.C. City Council, Trayon White Sr., who is a Democrat, was arrested by the FBI.
Details surrounding the reasons for his arrest have not been disclosed, despite his upcoming campaign for a third term in November.
In response to the situation, D.C. Council Chair Phil Mendelson released a statement, according to WTOP-TV.
“Both public trust and integrity in elected officials is critically important,” the statement said. “We’re trying to gather the facts at this time.”
Mendelson stated that he did not know the reason behind White’s detention.
“I’m anxious to get more details to understand what the situation is,” he said. “You all know as much as I know.”
Frederick Cooke Jr., White’s attorney said, “I am trying to get in contact with him and speak to my client and decide how we are going to proceed.”
Trayon White Sr. was previously imposed a $40,000 fine by the campaign finance office in the District of Columbia related to discrepancies in his spending and contributions from his 2020 council re-election and 2022 mayoral bid.
Approximately ten FBI agents, equipped with battering rams, took him into custody at his residence.
White stirred controversy in 2018 by implying that Jewish individuals controlled the weather.
“And D.C. keep talking about, ‘We’re a resilient city.’ And that’s a model based off the Rothschilds controlling the climate to create natural disasters they can pay for to own the cities, man,” White said. “Be careful.”
