IRS agents Gary Shapley and Joe Ziegler are suing Hunter Biden’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, for $20 million in defamation. The two alleged that Lowell retaliated against them after they revealed what they saw as slow progress in the investigation of Hunter’s tax matters by the Biden administration.
The agents alleged that Lowell falsely accused them of illegal disclosures and crimes, severely damaging their reputations.
Each investigator is suing for $10 million, asserting they acted honorably as whistleblowers amid political interference in the probe.
The two noted that they had functioned “with honor and integrity in exposing conflicts of interest, preferential treatment, and political motivations that they reasonably believed were interfering with the criminal tax investigation of Hunter Biden.”
Hunter Biden has admitted guilt to tax evasion and was convicted of federal firearms charges.
“Lowell’s malicious and false allegations, including accusations that Shapley and Ziegler ‘committed felonies’ and ‘violated the law,’ were published to third parties, including the media, and have severely harmed their professional and personal reputations,” the lawsuit stated.
“This was an act designed to harm Shapley and Ziegler by republishing the entire package of previous defamatory falsehoods in a larger forum,” the lawsuit added.
