Former Judge Takes His Own Life Amid Investigation

Stewart Rosenwasser, a former judge in New York, recently took his own life while federal agents were trying to apprehend him on charges of embezzlement and bribery. The FBI arrived at his home in Campbell Hall around 9:35 a.m., and shortly after, shots were fired.

“The FBI is reviewing an agent-involved shooting that occurred earlier this morning in Campbell Hall, NY. The FBI takes all shooting incidents involving our agents seriously,” the FBI stated.

“In accordance with FBI policy, the shooting incident is under review by the FBI’s Inspection Division. As this is an ongoing matter, we have no further details to provide,” the statement added.

Sources indicated that Rosenwasser pointed a gun at the agents before taking his own life.

He had recently been indicted for allegedly accepting $63,000 in bribes to influence a legal case.

The FBI is reviewing the incident, which included at least one shot fired by agents.

Rosenwasser’s family questioned reports labeling the incident strictly as a suicide.

“The only thing I feel compelled to point out is that the local news headlines are reporting that my father fatally shot himself while also reporting in the same article that the FBI field office issued a statement calling it an agent-involved shooting,” Rosenwasser’s son, Jason wrote.

“It’s truly heartbreaking that it ended this way. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family,” Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler stated.
