Harris Missteps Again: Gaffe About Veterans

Vice President Kamala Harris recently made a significant error by stating that she “stood up to veterans.” Harris promptly corrected herself, clarifying that she meant to say she stands in support of them.

“I stood up to veterans, and stood up for — excuse me,” Harris said, fixing her statement. “[I] stood up for veterans and students being scammed by big, for-profit colleges.”

The speech, attended by over 4,000 supporters, focused on Harris’ policies for the middle class and expanding Medicare for seniors.

“It’s about dignity, but the reality is it is expensive if you don’t have the ability to do it,” Harris said. “It is expensive to try and bring somebody in, and far too many people have to quit their job to try and take care of their elderly relatives. And that’s not right.”

Local supporters expressed their preference for Harris, citing concerns over former President Trump’s potential return.

Harris is “standing up for women, abortion, small businesses and day care,” retiree Peg Vanbrice said.

“It bothers me that if Trump wins, it’s setting an example: If you lie, cheat, bully, assault, you can get the most powerful position in the world,” Vanbrice added.

Harris’ gaffe, along with an earlier introduction referring to her as “the president,” drew mixed reactions from the audience.

Polls show a very tight race in Wisconsin, with Trump currently holding a slight lead.

“I want to hear something that will resonate with Wisconsin specifically — we’re a swing state,” journalist Violet Smale said. “She needs to keep the momentum going, and that will take something personal.”
