Following President Biden’s exit from the election and his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris, actress Eva Longoria took to the stage at the Democratic National Convention to rally support for Harris, highlighting the importance of backing the Latino community.
However, after Trump was declared president-elect, Longoria expressed her concern about the future, acknowledging her privilege to escape to her homes in Spain and Mexico while many Americans face a “dystopian” reality.
Reflecting on the election, she noted that while she was initially shocked by Trump’s win in 2016, she was less surprised this time, stating the most alarming aspect was that a convicted criminal could hold the highest office.
“Kamala’s success is our success,” Longoria told a Chicago crowd at the Democratic National Convention in August. “And she supports us to dream big, too. So let me tell you — in the Latino community, our community — we have a saying, ‘Si Se Puede!’… It means ‘Yes We Can!’ But tonight, I’m here to tell you, ‘Yes She Can!’ So we’re going to say, ‘She Se Puede!’”
“I’m privileged,” she said. “I get to escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.”
“If [Trump] keeps his promises, it’s going to be a scary place,” Eva Longoria said.
“But even before [the pandemic], it was changing. The vibe was different. And then COVID happened, and it pushed it over the edge. Whether it’s the homelessness or the taxes, not that I want to s— on California — it just feels like this chapter in my life is done now,” she said.
Longoria feels that the changing atmosphere in the U.S. has led her to believe her time in California may be coming to an end.
