Nick Bosa of the San Francisco 49ers stood by his choice to don a “Make America Great Again” hat during a live interview, even though it could lead to a fine from the NFL.
The incident occurred on October 27 after a game against the Dallas Cowboys, where Bosa interrupted an interview with teammates to display the hat.
When questioned about the potential fine, Bosa stated he was indifferent and felt the gesture was justified.
“It was well worth it,” Bosa said.
“I don’t think my position on speaking about it is going to change. Clearly, the nation spoke, and we got what we got,” he said.
“Hey @NFL, I hear you’re floating the idea of fining Nick Bosa because you ‘forbid political statements’ which is weird considering you were just fine with these…,” one user wrote, showing a photo montage of different players wearing or making political gestures on the field.
“NFL fines San Francisco 49ers’ star kicker Nick Bosa $11,255 for wearing a MAGA hat. Were players ever fined for wearing BLM apparel?” Another user wrote.
He was later fined $11,255 by the NFL for violating rules against political messages.
Critics have pointed out perceived double standards in the NFL’s enforcement of these rules regarding political statements.
